The day threshold
Portugal generally treats you as a tax resident if you spend 183 days or more there in any 12-month period, not just the calendar year.
Portugal is in the Schengen area, so if you're a non-EU visitor your stays there also count toward the Schengen 90/180 limit — a separate rule from tax residency.
